Harold George Belafonte, Jr.. born in New York City, March 1, 1927; is a Jamaican-American singer, dubbed the "king of calypso music". Although the nickname was personally reluctant acceptance, Belafonte credited with popularizing Caribbean music to the international public in the 1950s. Belafonte is known by the song "Banana Boat Song", especially the lyric "Day-O" sung repeatedly. Throughout his career, he was also active in the civil rights and humanitarian affairs.
